The Rottweiler is a very old breed. You can lead it 2000 years back to the time, when it came in to existence in the roman empire. Here it contribuated heavely to, that the map over Europa looks, like it does. For that it don’t deserves credit or rod, because it did not happend by own will, but it is a fact, that the ancient Roman legions hardly could have crossed the Alps and conquered  central Europe without the help of the Rottweiler.

2000 years ago a military – expedition was a extremly difficult mission, almost every form of technical aid was unknown and the people's journey often took months. One of the biggest problems was to get some food to the army, because you could’nt count on finding any food on the way.  Man did not know about preservation of meat, wich was brought along and thereby had to be transported “on hooves”.  And here the Rottweiler comes into the picture, as it was its ancestors that guarded and drove the cattle, and during the battles it was a war dog. Many dogs of this type followed the roman battles, and in that way it reached the city Rottweil in Wärttemberg, that the romans conquered in the first century.

Much was demanded of these dogs concerning their courage, wisdom, incorruptibility, fine sense of smell, etc..   as they had to work in times where robbery and killing on the highways where more of a rule than an exception.

But the Rottweiler, as the dog is now called, fulfilled these demands, and his  abilities were further developed and encouraged throughout the centuries until the railroad came and took over the transport of cattle. The Rottweiler was  becoming unnecessary now and seemed lost, but in the start af the century, it was discovered that it’s abilities made it specially fit for policeservice and the Rottweiler got its renaissance.

The first Rottweiler came to Denmark in 1911, bought in Germany for  Copenhagen's policeforces.   Ryth von der Freiheit was its name and as she was a typical Rottweiler and as good a policedog as a loving dog in the private life, the foundation was layd to the breeds later popularity in Denmark.

Today the Rottweiler is also used in the Civil Army, by guardcompanies etc.  It is also been used as a helpdog for the blind and as a drugdog but it is mostly used as a good friend and a home protector.

In 1944 when the Rottweiler's popularity reached a temporary climax under the times uncomfortable relations, some Rottweilerfriends came together and created  a Rottweilerclub as a special club under DKK.

The Rottweilerclub has since worked to promote the knowledge on the breed and rational breeding so the perfect type can be bred : a well build  dog with the best character- and  user-quality.  This goal has been reached by having a breedingtest to select the best qualified breedingdogs, by only using specialists to judge the dogs on display and also by helping the members with advice on relations concerning the dogs.

The Rottweilerclub publishes a members-magasine with relevant articles, reports of displays and shows, breedingtests and userquality-results and other things that there can be of interest for the members.

The clubwork takes place on a national basis with big arrangments as well as on a localbasis in the districts, like fx Roskildedistricts, that covers Roskilde county, with displays, shows, meetings and normal training ect.
